aye, que gringa.

i've taken years of spanish in school, heck, i live in southern california, its basically a requirement to know spanish. i just... forget basic vocabulary sometimes. but i forget basic vocabulary in english too, it's just not as funny.

ps. i did a crap job coloring this cause my new marker brush is frayed already. aye! que lastima.
also: i am 1/1 comics per day this year. omg, amazing, etc.

twin power.

this incident is from when scott made white trash dinner, which consisted of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. it had been years since i'd eaten american cheese (we called it square cheese when i was a kid) we added some green chilis in there and some tomatoes, and they were delicious.

people sitting down, what a difficult thing to draw! also heres something cool to check out: http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Graphisms/345970 i'm diggin' the use of spot color. enjoy.

the final count down (do do doot do do...)

when doomsday prophesies converge with current events, thats what we like to call ... complete nonsense. we've been talking about the end of the world for a while now. a friend of mine teaches religious studies at the local community college, over lunch the other day, i brought up the end of the world. "my students are always trying to jump ahead to the end of the world," she says. "i have to tell them to wait until the end of the semester! the end of the world comes last."

y'all can join me for a beer on the back porch when the world ends. open invitation.

pee ess: have you seen brian hunters mattress paintings? they are absolutely gorgeous. http://brianhunter.ca/index.php?/mattresses/ check it out.

new year, new beard.

scott shaves his beard every year at midnight. this year, i dared him a 6 pack of lagunitas if he kept a trucker for a week. it actually looks kinda good on him.

the first book i finished this year was nate beaty's complete brainfag collection. (http://brainfag.com/) nate beaty does auto bio comics, he has an amazing range of styles jammed into this little anthology. i was a bit inspired and have been drawing like crazy. i like the b/w, and the looser format. its making me think about texture a lot more. i am envious of lisa hanawalt's amazing talent with texture: http://www.lisahanawalt.com/ (also she did a great collab with raphael bob-waksberg called "tip me over pour me out" check it out here: http://www.tmopmo.com/)

speaking of autobio comics, erica moen just officially announced that she is retiring DAR: her super secret diary comic. read the archives here: http://www.darcomic.org/

maestro

i was going to have to work graveyard on new years eve (i work at a hotel...shift starts 11pm) but my co worker took my shift! we had a few people over, some hot wings and i played music and sang loudly and obnoxiously. trey actually filmed some of it, and at one point in the footage, i exclaim that i can play any instrument in the world. (i never said i could play them well...)

is that a banana in your pocket?

scott works at a bookstore. sometimes there are little kids that shout funny things like "bi-curious george!!" sometimes i draw a comic about it.

well, happy new years everyone. i am going to be busy for the rest of 2009, so probably no more comics this year. i'll be back in 2010 to tell you all about it.
